What is—and is not—included

This is the electricity portion of running cost. It does not include depreciation, finance, insurance, tyres, servicing, road tax, standing charges or parking. Public rapid charging can cost several times a cheap off-peak home tariff, so use the rate you genuinely expect to pay.

Example

At 3.5 miles/kWh, 25p/kWh and 90% charging efficiency, the energy cost is about 7.9p per mile. The same car at a 79p/kWh rapid charger costs roughly 25.1p per mile.
